This work is based on an inservice by Katryne Dubeau, B.Ed., M.Ed. , and follows the work of Terry Johanson.
In this model, students pre-assess their prerequisite skills, and work independently to ensure they have mastered the knowledge, understanding, and skills required before engaging in grade-level instruction. The premise of the work is that students work independently, using materials organized in “boards” of folders that contain a “So you think you got it” quiz, then practice, activities to do independently or with a partner, and web sites with videos and practice.
Katryne’s work follows that of Terry Johanson. Terry calls this the “Assess–Respond–Instruct Cycle”.
